ABOUT ME
Hi, everyone! Welcome to my online classroom. Here you will find lessons, resources, videos, and more, which will help you succeed in my classes or in classes of your own. Before you go through the classroom, here is a little introduction about myself:
I am currently a teacher candidate in the Teacher Education Program at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver Campus. My specializations include Social Studies, Geography, and International Baccalaureate (IB) Geography SL/HL. I received my undergraduate degree in geography from Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, BC, with a concentration in resources, economics, and the environment. In my spare time, I love travelling, yoga, and going to the beach! Besides teaching, staying fit is also one of my passions. As a result, I am also a certified personal trainer as of 2018 by PTA Global.
Vancouver is my home, but in the near future (hopefully by August of this year) I will be moving to sunny San Diego, California. If only Vancouver got as much sun as San Diego, then maybe I'd stay...
Anyways, that's enough about me! Hopefully I'll learn more about you through the assignments you all hand in :) Happy learning!

MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
I believe that at times, schools are structures that limit the knowledge and learning an individual can obtain. Through different ways of learning, such as exploration, travel, informal education, and understanding different cultures and traditions, students would receive a greater understanding of the world, the different perspectives of others, and how people connect on a larger scale.
I believe that inquiry is the most useful tool when it comes to education. Open-ended questions, collaboration, and building upon ideas are beneficial to students as it helps students realize that there is not one answer for everything. If inquiry is used in the classroom, education becomes more student-focused instead of teacher-focused. Inquiry enables individuals to share their perspectives, build upon each other's views, and make sense of the environment around them. As a result, students receive education in a broader context, rather than specific information-based learning.
Social and emotional learning is important for student's academic success. Without social and emotonal learning, there is no student-teacher relationship and students often feel like they do not have a support system within the school. Eventually, they may lose interest in learning and drop out of school, hindering their opportunity to acquire knowledge. If administrators can create a nurturing and caring environment, students will be able to be more open with teachers and their mental health will improve.
Students have a special niche in this world. As educators, we must help them find that niche, even if it is not in the subject area we are teaching. We need to provide resources and opportunities for students to find their special talent, job, or gift.
Finally, I believe that education should include personal development and social change. Students must form their own thoughts, ideas, and perspectives about society and identify what needs to be changed. This idea illustrates that society is not perfect, and students must make continuous improvements that fit with the ever-changing beliefs of people. Students should not conform to what society wants them to be. They should not be moulded into the same individual. Instead, each individual is unique.
